HBO has unveiled the official final trailer for the third season of House of the Dragon, offering a new preview of the escalating Targaryen civil war as the series prepares to return on June 21.

Based on Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, the series is set roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and chronicles the rise and internal conflict of House Targaryen. Season 3 is expected to begin with the Battle of the Gullet, one of the most significant clashes in the war, while also advancing storylines involving King’s Landing and the competing claims to the throne.

The Season 3 trailer highlights the growing conflict between rival factions fighting for control of the Iron Throne, with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her allies moving deeper into open warfare. It also showcases large-scale battles, political maneuvering and extensive dragon combat as the struggle known as the Dance of the Dragons intensifies.

Returning cast members include Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen. New episodes will air weekly throughout the eight-episode season, culminating with the finale on Aug. 9.

The series continues under showrunner Ryan Condal, who serves as co-creator and executive producer alongside Martin. HBO has already confirmed that the story will continue beyond Season 3, with a fourth and final season planned to conclude the adaptation of the Targaryen conflict.
