The first teaser for the upcoming film Verity offers a chilling glimpse into a psychological thriller led by Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway, with Josh Hartnett co-starring. The film, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2018 novel, is set to arrive in theaters on Oct. 2.

Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a financially struggling writer hired to complete a successful book series left unfinished after acclaimed author Verity Crawford (Hathaway) is incapacitated by an accident. Moving into the Crawford home to work, Lowen uncovers a disturbing manuscript that hints at unsettling truths about Verity—and begins to question everything around her.

As Lowen grows closer to Verity’s husband Jeremy (Hartnett), the situation takes a sinister turn. The teaser builds tension with eerie imagery and psychological twists, including a shocking moment where Lowen realizes the man she’s kissing may not be who she thinks. Verity’s presence lingers throughout, blurring the line between reality and illusion. The trailer is punctuated by Verity’s ominous warning: “Even with my continuous warning, you’re going to continue to ingest my words. But know one thing: There is no light where we’re going.”

Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca, the film continues the wave of adaptations from Hoover’s work, following the commercial success of It Ends With Us, Regretting You, and Reminders of Him. Originally self-published, Verity became a major hit before being picked up by Grand Central Publishing in 2021.

Verity is set for release Oct. 2, 2026; see the teaser trailer – HERE.
