Paramount+ and Paramount Network officially ordered a second season of the hit series “Dutton Ranch.” The “Yellowstone” spinoff features Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their roles as the volatile but fiercely loyal couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, who have shifted their operations from the mountains of Montana to the plains of Texas.
The quick renewal follows unprecedented ratings performance for both the streaming platform and linear television. Within its initial seven days on Paramount+, the mid-May premiere captured 12.9 million global viewers, securing the title of the platform’s most successful original series debut. Concurrently, the broadcast on Paramount Network pulled in 2.9 million total viewers for its two-episode introduction, marking the most-watched cable series premiere since 2023 and dominating the key 18-to-49 viewer demographic.
Centering on the couple’s attempt to establish a new legacy in Rio Paloma, Texas, the narrative quickly entangles them with local adversaries. According to the official series logline, “As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together — far from the ghosts of Yellowstone — they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire,” creating a backdrop where “In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul.” The ensemble cast supporting the central pair includes prominent stars Annette Bening and Ed Harris.
Executive transitions loom over the production as it heads into its second chapter, with a replacement showrunner yet to be named following the pre-premiere departure of creator Chad Feehan. Despite behind-the-scenes shifts, network executives expressed immense confidence in the property’s long-term viability. Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, stated that “Beth and Rip are among the most iconic duos in television history, and we are thrilled to bring a whole new world to life with ‘Dutton Ranch’ for our subscribers around the world,” while corporate partners emphasized that the show successfully builds upon its legacy while carving out a distinct structural identity.
