Lionsgate has dropped a new trailer for ‘The Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping,’ offering a closer look at Joseph Zada as a young Haymitch Abernathy and the brutal 50th Hunger Games. The sixth film in the franchise is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters and IMAX on Nov. 20.
Directed by Francis Lawrence and written by Billy Ray, the movie is based on the 2025 novel by Suzanne Collins, and serves as both a prequel to “The Hunger Games” and a follow-up to 2023’s “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”
Set 24 years before the events of the original “The Hunger Games,” the film follows 16-year-old Haymitch after he is selected as a District 12 tribute for the Second Quarter Quell. Unlike the standard Games, the event sends 48 tributes into the arena instead of 24. The trailer also introduces his alliance with fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace, as Haymitch begins looking for a way to resist the Capitol.
The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Glenn Close and Whitney Peak. Francis Lawrence, who directed several previous franchise installments, returns behind the camera.
