Netflix has announced that the fifth and final season of Outer Banks will debut Aug. 20, bringing an end to the streaming hit’s six-year run. A newly released teaser trailer offers a first look at the final chapter, showing the surviving Pogues facing fresh dangers while dealing with the emotional aftermath of the events that closed Season 4.
The upcoming season picks up after the death of JJ, a loss that becomes the driving force behind the story. John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo are shown stranded far from home in Morocco after losing both their friend and the coveted Blue Crown treasure. Determined to move forward, the group embarks on a mission for justice while confronting a growing list of enemies.
According to Netflix, familiar threats including Chandler Groff, Dalia, the Corsairs and the Kooks will continue to challenge the Pogues. The trailer also hints at an uneasy alliance with Rafe as the characters fight to regain control of their future. Packed with chases, confrontations and explosions, the footage signals a high-stakes conclusion to the adventure drama.
Series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke have previously said the show was always envisioned as a five-season story. Production on the final season wrapped in late 2025, with the creative team promising an emotional and action-filled farewell. Returning cast members include Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey and Carlacia Grant.
Since premiering in 2020, Outer Banks has become one of Netflix’s most successful young-adult dramas, building a devoted global fan base through its blend of treasure hunts, friendship and mystery. The final season aims to bring the Pogues’ journey to a definitive close when the series returns in August.
