The first trailer for Heart of the Beast has arrived, offering a look at Brad Pitt’s latest dramatic role as a former Special Forces soldier fighting to stay alive in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. The survival thriller reunites Pitt with director David Ayer more than a decade after their collaboration on Fury and is scheduled to reach theaters Sept. 25.
Pitt stars as James Belmont, a retired military operative whose small aircraft crashes deep in Alaska, leaving him stranded alongside his loyal combat dog, Odin. The trailer follows the pair as they endure harsh weather, rugged terrain and dangerous wildlife while attempting to survive far from civilization. Flashbacks reveal their shared military history and the injuries Odin suffered during service, underscoring the bond that drives the story.
The footage highlights both the physical and emotional challenges, with Belmont confronting personal trauma while relying on Odin for survival. Scenes of nighttime encounters with wolves, wilderness rescues and tense moments in the aftermath of the crash suggest a thriller that blends action with character-driven drama. Ayer has described the project as a story about resilience, healing and the connection between a man and his dog.
The film also stars J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe, with a screenplay by Cameron Alexander. Produced by Pitt, Ayer, Olivia Hamilton and Marty Bowen, the project was filmed in New Zealand, where the production used remote wilderness locations to recreate Alaska’s challenging environment. The canine role of Odin is played primarily by a trained dog named Uber.
