Peacock has released the first teaser for “Crystal Lake,” the long-awaited “Friday the 13th” prequel series, confirming that all eight episodes will debut on Oct. 15. Produced by A24 and created by showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, the series shifts the focus to Pamela Voorhees before the events of the 1980 horror classic, exploring the tragedy that shaped one of the franchise’s most infamous figures.
The teaser opens with the seemingly peaceful Camp Crystal Lake before quickly giving way to ominous imagery, including an ambulance, frightened counselors and a campfire tale recalling “when that kid drowned last summer.” Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela “Pam” Voorhees, grieving the loss of her son Jason as she searches the lake calling his name. According to the official synopsis, the story follows Pam nearly a year after Jason’s death as two strangers begin investigating her past, setting off a chain of disturbing events that ripples through the community. The cast also includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, Gwendolyn Sundstrom and Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees.
Rather than serving as a traditional slasher, show runner Kane has described the series as a psychological thriller rooted in the atmosphere of 1970s paranoia while remaining faithful to the franchise’s violent legacy. Set in the 1970s instead of the 1950s, the series expands the mythology surrounding Pamela Voorhees and introduces both familiar and new characters connected to Camp Crystal Lake.
