Netflix has released the official trailer for Heartland, a mystery thriller starring Jessica Chastain as a reclusive former country music superstar pulled back into the spotlight by a family crisis. The film, written and directed by Shana Feste, follows Misty Jones, who returns to Nashville after spending 20 years away when her niece, Charlie Heart, an aspiring country singer, goes missing.

The trailer shows Misty investigating Charlie’s disappearance while confronting the darker side of the Nashville music industry and secrets connected to her own past. As her search intensifies, she encounters people who appear to know more about Charlie’s disappearance than they are willing to reveal. Netflix describes the story as a journey into a side of Nashville where appearances can be deceiving, including for Misty herself.

Chastain’s character is portrayed as tough, unpredictable and unwilling to worry about being liked. “Misty could be incredibly tender, and then five minutes later, shoot someone’s windows out,” Chastain told Netflix’s Tudum. “She’s not interested in being liked. And I love women like that on the screen because I don’t think we get to see them that often.”

The cast includes Carter Faith as Charlie, Garrett Hedlund as her manager Roy Combs, Ross Lynch as Charlie’s boyfriend Jace and Jennifer Nettles as country singer Winnie Jo Lean. John Hawkes, Paul Sparks, Hill Harper, Norbert Leo Butz, Wynn Everett, Isabelle Kusman and David Rysdahl also appear in the film.

Heartland also marks a musical turn for Chastain, who performs alongside Nettles on the film’s title song, “Heartland.” The full soundtrack is scheduled to arrive with the movie, which will begin streaming exclusively on Netflix on Nov. 13.
