Jessica Chastain returns to the horror genre in the newly released trailer for Other Mommy, taking on a dual role as both a devoted mother and the sinister supernatural entity that threatens her family. The psychological horror film, directed by Host filmmaker Rob Savage, is scheduled to arrive exclusively in theaters on Oct. 9. The movie is produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, and is adapted from Josh Malerman’s acclaimed novel Incidents Around the House.
The trailer centers on young Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, whose increasingly unsettling encounters with a mysterious figure known as “Other Mommy” blur the line between comfort and terror. Although the eerie doppelgänger initially appears caring, its disturbing behavior—including grotesque physical contortions and unnerving interactions with the family—reveals a far more dangerous presence. As Bela struggles to determine whether the woman before her is truly her mother, the film builds tension around the growing psychological and supernatural threat inside the family’s home.
Chastain stars opposite Jay Duplass as Bela’s father, Daddo, while Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen round out the supporting cast. Nathan Elston adapted the screenplay, with Savage directing the feature after earning acclaim for horror films including Host and The Boogeyman.
The trailer had already generated significant buzz after debuting exclusively in theaters ahead of screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with many early viewers highlighting its unsettling imagery and memorable jump scares before its online release. For Chastain, whose previous genre credits include Mama and It: Chapter Two, Other Mommy marks a return to horror with a performance that places her on both sides of the story’s central nightmare.
