New details have emerged surrounding the death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.
Tthe Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Presley died Sunday, Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, but his official cause and manner of death have not been released. While an initial autopsy has been completed, additional testing is expected to determine the exact cause of death, according to PEOPLE. Authorities are investigating the death, and no foul play is suspected.
A 911 call was initially reported as involving a suspected overdose and cardiac arrest, according to reports from Page Six and TMZ. Santa Monica police said emergency personnel responded to the facility Sunday morning, where an unresponsive person was found. Gerber was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m.
Gerber had been open in recent years about struggles involving mental health and substance use. In 2025, he began sharing posts under the title “Mental Health Mondays” to encourage conversations about issues that are often kept private. He also discussed his experiences with treatment and prescription medications, including in social media posts and interviews. His sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber, addressed his long-running addiction struggles in an August interview with Vogue, describing the effect they had on their family.
The elder Gerber sibling began modeling as a teenager after signing with IMG Models and later worked with brands including Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Celine. He also appeared with his mother in a 2018 Pepsi commercial during Super Bowl LII. A representative for the family confirmed his death and said, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
